In the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the famous squirrel scene was filmed using real, trained squirrels rather than CGI. A team of animal trainers spent months teaching around 40 squirrels to crack nuts, sit on stools, and interact with objects for the sequence in Willy Wonka’s Nut Room. Some CGI and animatronics were used to supplement certain shots, but much of the scene features real squirrels performing live on set. | History In Pictures
