The fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) and King Bolete aka porcini (Boletus edulis) are often found growing near each other in the same habitat and season. The fly agaric is mildly toxic, but can be boiled in water several times to remove the toxins. King boletes are delicious sweet nutty meaty mushrooms, one of my favorites. #mushrooms #mycology #mushroomasmr #amanitamuscaria #boletusedulis #porcini

Trail maintenance for wildlife habitat. Whenever a tree falls on a trail or road and needs to be cleaned up, I like to do it this way . Take the larger pieces put them on the bottom and crisscross the other pieces as you pile up the rest of the tree. This creates a fantastic nesting structure for small mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fungi. Plus it makes for a decent workout. Time lapse is 30 seconds but this took about 30 minutes to build. #naturerelianceschool #wildlifesteward #habita

Not sure when I’ll have a chance to post again, so here’s a quick guide to hunting burn morels in the Sierra Foothills. Morels are particularly elusive mushrooms that often hide in plain sight. Sometimes the best way to find them isn’t to actually look for morels - but to hunt the habitat. Look for area where moisture is collecting, near green plants, in drainage channels, under logs, in piles or sticks and debris.
