1 Corinthians 13:12: "For now we see through a glass, darkly"
δι' (through) ἐσόπτρου (a mirror) ἐν (in) αἰνίγματι (obscurity) When we look this it seems to lend to the idea of a glass window that has an opaque view, but the actual meaning of ἐσόπτρου seems to be a mirror as shown in the other occurrence of this word by James, who says:
If it's a mirror, what is being reflected in 1 Cor 13:12?
We don't see "through" the reflector in the sense of "because of" the reflector but rather we gaze through it in the sense of looking "beyond" the image. The reflector, whether it is metal, glass or stone is an obstacle to seeing as much as it is a revelation. The picture is dark. This may be the sense he's trying to convey. Prophesy is obscure.
