2015年2月11日 · I purchased a Tower "GR" w/crown, flintlock at an estate sale and am having difficulty in determining it's age and/or maker. The only marks are the Tower, GR+ Crown and the number 1420 on the barrel. Handle looks machine made as does the stamping of "Tower" On the other hand it does not look quite like the Japan examples from the 70's.

5 天之前 · The lock looks to be a copy of a Spanish miquelet lock, and has the grooves on the Frizzen face, which seem to be soldered into place. That's a detail unneeded in just a souvenir, so might actually have been some sort of old lock as well. The point would be to make it look very old and get a good price for it from a tourist. LD

2014年1月5日 · It's real, it's a trade pistol late 1700s, early 18s. Magnified pix of the barrel marks likely English proof marks. Looks authentic to me, but PLEASE stop polishing the brass and remove any wax you may have applied to keep it from tarnishing--and LET IT TARNISH. The shape of the cock was typical of the mid 18th century.

2013年1月5日 · The turn-off pistol was alive and well in the 1600s, same design as the one here. Basically the barrel being turn-off, the stock fore end shortened and no ramrod. The "Queen Anne" (1702-15) type, all metal but for the grip, with the barrel screwing on to the receiver which was integrated with the lock mechanism.

This pistol is pre-1813 based on the private "crown/P" proofs on the underside of the action. It has four barrels configured with an upper and lower barrel and then a left and right barrel rather than the more common two up and two down configuration. The lever on the left rotates the pan and has only two positions.

2007年2月5日 · I have a beautiful but neglected old flintlock fowling piece with a barrel marked "LONDON" on one of the flats (octagonal barrel transitioning to round) and a lock marked "W ALLPORT" on the outside and stamped "WA" on the inside. Style of the gun (stock, butplate, etc) appears to be from the period of early 1800s or late 1700s.
