Winning and playing good rugby are bi-products of a broader aim which is to put structures in place to ensure coaches improve. This in turn produces better and more skilful players, which will improve not only schools rugby, but the country’s rugby.
This manual provides teachers and coaches with relevant informa on on how to coach rugby so that children get the maximum benefi ts from doing the sport – to get physically ac ve, healthy and fi t. The focus of the manual is on developing the basic skills needed for juniors (up to the age of 12) to be competent on the fi eld.
The Level I course manual (Helping Youngsters to Discover Rugby) was first written in 1982, and was predominantly concerned with the coaching of the 8-10 year age bracket in the modified game of Mini Rugby.
