Nov 30, 2009 · PPG base/clear systems. Base coat does not need activator, however nothing will happen if you do put it in. I've experimented with it a bit. Clear coat does require activator and I usually shoot it within 1/2 hr after spraying last base coat, as manufacturer suggests. I'd follow spec sheets to the point and you won't have a problem.

Jul 10, 2014 · The last four jobs I used 2021 and just can't get as good of results. It seems like the fine line between orange peel vs. runs is much harder to find with the 2021. A few nights ago I sprayed the 2021 but didn't reduce it as much. Normally with 2042 I would go 4:1:1 clear/hard/reduce, but I tried something closer to 4:1: 1/2.

Apr 1, 2009 · I have used DCU2002 and I absolutely love it. It was recommended to me by Barry from Southern Polyurethane. I asked him about another PPG clear and told him I wanted to stick with PPG products and he said DCU2002 is basically the same formula as SPI clear. DCU2002 sprays great and lays down fantastic.

Apr 13, 2006 · A few quick questions for a PPG base/clear coat job: 1) Paint shop said since we are using the low end of PPG's product line, it may take 3 coats to cover. Said to wait 15 minutes between coats. Agree? Temp this weekend will be in the 70s. 2) Runs -Paint shop said to use 1200 grit and sand out any runs between coats. Agree?

May 2, 2008 · I have a question regarding the ratio of ppg's 2021 clear and dx685 flattening agent to achiever a semi-gloss to satin finish. I really don't want to see a reflection in the finish. I'm getting ready to spray it and I've never used clear coat with the dx685. I've done some test with small amounts, but its either to shiny or too dull.
