Nearly all U.S. government employees, eligible family members (EFMs), contractors, and fellows/interns assigned to an overseas post for 30 days or more must obtain a medical clearance before the start of their assignment. A medical clearance enables these individuals to access Department health care benefits and services while posted abroad.
