2018年2月19日 · Magellan is a steaming pile of El Torro poo poo, IMHO. You drive to a place with 4G LTE, activate the blue tooth and Starlink app. Then touch the app button on the touchscreen. Soon. a bunch of cloud based apps appear. Choose Magellan. Go through some disclaimer, lawyer screens, accept screens and you reach a real GPS Nav program.

2017年11月12日 · I’m sure I’ll get used to it, or just limited my use to its more important features. What I can’t get over, is the Magellan navigation system, which I supposedly should use by linking the app on my smart phone to Subaru Starlink service. It just does not work! It is able to locate a given address, but unable to guide me throughout the trip.

2022年1月31日 · The built-in navigation is mediocre at best (I thought it was tom-tom, not Magellan, but whatever) and requires a Starlink subscription. Click to expand... At least on my 2017, the navigation works fine still today without ever paying any money to Starlink.
2017 - Dfference between 17-18 factory headunit...
2021年1月1日 · Especially since the 2018 head units starlink app system comes with Magellan navigation. I bought a 2017 Forester Premium and was thinking if the only difference was that the Magellan app and the starlink system was preloaded in the 2018 head units and I didn't need a new connector I could just swap them out.

2022年4月24日 · There is no such thing as a perfect GPS - all will have some type of issue for somebody. Some hate the Tom-Tom interface and map updates, others love it. Garmin, Magellan, even Waze and Google maps have drawbacks. And while Subaru may be going after a new provider, it would probably work the same - unless they're re-doing the entire head unit.

The starlink is useless because I cannot install it on my phone (iphone 6s, no longer supports updates). Is there an add-on or dongle to get CarPlay on the headunit display?

2024年2月5日 · If @kaycindeed doesn't have the "SUBARU STARLINK 8.0" Multimedia Navigation System" that the Limited and Touring had, then they are not going to get factory navigation, but should still be able to use Car Play or Android Auto and use the above suggestions. Downloading and using the app is free of charge. As long as you have a cell phone.
No Nav on 2017/18 Forester Premium?

I'm seriously considering replacing the head unit with a Kenwood Excelon DNX693S which has been newly released. It is a navigation head unit with a 6.2" screen. For about $400 more I could buy a Kenwood Excelon DNX 893S which has a larger 6.95" screen ...

2020年1月11日 · Depends on trim level. Built-in navigation is optional on the Limited, standard on the Touring. Not available on base, Premium, or Sport. All models support Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Many people will tell you that they get better results from Android Auto or Carplay than from any built-in nav.

2020年1月11日 · Did a little road test yesterday, wandering around western NC north of Asheville with 3 Navigation units. All performed well, same directions and estimates of time, distance, progress as we ignored directions and let them recalculate. No real traffic in our area. I was a passenger. Don't try this as the driver.
