Oct 8, 2007 · Continuing to assemble the 460 in my spare time. I installed the timing gears yesterday but have a question. According to my 460 manual (and what I've always experienced on FE engines), the crank keyway should be pointing directly upward and the cam marker dot should be pointing directly downward when installed.

Oct 24, 2019 · Came across this , The block is a D1VE-6015-A2B and the heads are D3VE-A2A. Your engine was manufactured between 1973-1978 and all those engines are essentially the same as far as being a core candidate for a high performance build.

Feb 20, 2006 · Hello. I have a 79 f 150 with a 460 under the hood. Does anyone have any idea what the initial timing is supposed to be set at? I got it a 10 degrees btdc now. Someone at one time told me 13 degrees but I dont know. Also, does an MSD multiple spark box help at all for throttle response? Does it affect where timing should be set? Thanks.

Jan 15, 2006 · By the same token (and not to discourage you), you are looking at buying a forty year old car that has a complete unoriginal engine in it. I think that is what you should be concerning yourself with and not necessarily where the 460 engine came from. Take time to indeed crawl around and look at the install of that power plant into that T-bird.

Apr 18, 2008 · I'm trying to get the timing cover off of my '79 f250 460, but I can't figure out how to remove the spacer once I've removed the vibration dampener. All of the manuals I've looked at say it should slide off once the dampener is removed, but the spacer on my engine has a key way that doesn't align with the key way for the dampener.

Mar 28, 2007 · Heres the deal, 460 w/ flat top pistons, 562/562 244/244 @050 lift. 75 cc Edelbrock heads, Crane gold 1:73 rockers, Weiand Stealth Intake, 950 cfm carb, oem style Accel distributor, MSD ignition Compression figures around 11:1+, running 110 octane fuel. Engine ran good with previous cam. Install new cam, problems begin. Engine to lean, new carb.

May 5, 2005 · Maybe not even a race engine, as I want it to be for the street mainly. Thing is, I've had a few people tell me that 460's are mainly for commercial cars and trucks etc. and I'd be better off going a 351, pfffft, what do they know. Anyway it got me thinking, back in the day 460's weren't popular in race cars or performace muscle cars.
