They are used where the end of a prestressing cable is buried in concrete or is inaccessible during the stressing operation of the tendon. In prestressed concrete structures, prestress is introduced by stretching steel wire and anchoring them against concrete. Therefore, the prestressing systems should comprise essentially a method of stretching the steel and a method of anchoring it to the concrete. Different systems are adopted for pre-tensioning and post tensioning.
Initial stressing is usually impractical for underside stressed tendons. Underside live end anchorages must be min. 80 mm clear below soffit behind live end, & be stripped before 1st stressing to allow sufficient access. Underside stressing on either or both ends of a double live cable is NOT acceptable.
