There are some great quotes in there and assumptions of only 2000lbs of downforce! It's pretty obvious in the evolution from the CLK-GTR to the CLR that Mercedes had gone for maximal streamlining and drag reduction which surely resulted in low downforce.

The CLK GTR is a GT1 class car used in the 1997 FIA GT season and early 1998 FIA GT season (did not compete at Le Mans). The CLK LM is a GT1 class car used for the 1998 Le Mans and the later part of the 1998 FIA GT season. It was based on the CLK GTR but heavily modified, for example different engine and bodywork.
