Baslow is a village in Derbyshire, England, in the Peak District, situated between Sheffield and Bakewell, just over 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Chatsworth House. It is sited by the River Derwent, which is spanned by a 17th-century bridge, alongside which is a contemporary toll house.
Bubnell is a hamlet within the parish of Baslow, situated on the river Derwent in North Derbyshire, not far from Bakewell and adjacent to Chatsworth House, the well known residence of the Duke of Devonshire. Most of Bubnell is west of the river, but it also included moorland separate from the hamlet and situated on the high ground east of Baslow.

Bubnell Hall. Bubnell Hall is probably the oldest dwelling house in Baslow and Bubnell, built about 1670. It may have replaced an earlier manor house. After the Norman conquest the manor of Baslow was the property of various Norman courtiers, eventually falling to the Vernons and then the Dukes of Rutland.

By 1850 Baslow (including Bubnell) was a pretty rural village with good roads to the industrial centres of Sheffield and Chesterfield. Nearby Chatsworth had been attracting visitors for generations. The village responded with new and renovated hotels and shops, especially at Nether End which soon became a tourist centre and gateway to Chatsworth.
