What is the origin of the term "gook" for the Japanese?
2019年5月4日 · Here in Korea we speculate the origin of the word to come from early interactions between the Americans and Koreans. When the US troops came into Korea, the Koreans would call out our world for the US, “미국” (Miguk). Hearing “Me, gook” would have sounded to the Americans like the Koreans were naming themselves.
Please forgive my use of the pejorative term, but I'm curious

2021年4月5日 · A Korean looked at an American soldier and said American in the Korean language. American in Korean is Mee-gook. The soldier misunderstood as Koreans as Mee-gook. As in "Me Gook." As in the pronoun "Me" then saying they're a gook. Mee actually means America and Gook meaning country. But they took the word Mee-gook as an English sentence. Hilarious.

2018年3月14日 · Things go well we start chatting and having fun. I can’t remember the context but I heard his Asian friend tease him and called him a gook. Now of course this is all fun and games and it’s not meant to be derogatory. Heck, I call my friends dickheads or assholes. But the thing is, I have never called my Asian friends a gook/ chink to them.
