It was probably not indestructable, but easily replaceable. Cutting a few strings would have allowed Zoro, Fujitora or such to escape, but the cage would close once they're out, which wasn't the goal. The goal was to buy Luffy and Law enough time to defeat Doflamingo. Unless you’re someone like Mihawk or Shanks.
