The Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche was born in the small village of Ralungda in Kham, eastern Tibet in 1933. At the age of five, he was recognized as the Thrangu Tulku by the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje and the 11th Tai Situ Rinpoche Pema Wangchuk Gyalpo and enthroned at Thrangu Monastery.
The Life of Thrangu Rinpoche
Thrangu Rinpoche’s family were practitioners of the Sakya sect of Tibetan Buddhism. When Thrangu Rinpoche was about one year old, his father took him to the Sakya monastery, Kyegu Monastery, to see a tulku there called Jnana Tulku, who was an emanation of Sakya Gomchen, to give Rinpoche a name.
