The Death of Nelson, 21 October 1805 - Royal Museums Greenwich
Nelson reclines full-length facing to the left, covered by a sheet, leaving only his head, left shoulder and arm visible, with his uniform coat discarded at his feet. His portrait was painted from a posthumous sketch of the body that Devis made on board the 'Victory' on its return to England in December 1805.

Portraits of Nelson
There are 2 versions - one, the full-length oil painting (top). The other, an unfinished sketch which Hoppner based the painting upon. What I find particularly interesting is the differences between them. The finished portrait shows a leader - a kind, approachable one, filled with a quiet confidence. This is the Nelson loved by his men.

This vivid sketch by William Beechey (1753–1839) is a study for a full-length portrait commissioned by the City of Norwich in Norfolk, where Nelson was born. The artist’s alteration to the shape of the head is clearly visible, yet the eye colour, which is depicted as brown instead of grey, was not corrected.

2019年10月21日 · Incredible a hand-drawn sketch by Admiral Lord Nelson himself showing his plan for victory at Trafalgar has been discovered tucked inside the pages of a scrapbook after nearly 200 years. They were discovered by historian Martyn Downer in a scrap book book from the 1830s which was recently sold at auction.
