Joist Hangers vs. toe-nailing rafters on shed roof addition
2012年5月29日 · To attach these porch rafters to the ledger, I am considering using Joist Hangers. These rafters will have to resist both thrust and shear, and it seems the hangers will do a good job with this. Around these parts, I've seen similar shed-roof-to-wall-assemblies, and some are just toe-nailed in with 2 to 3 nails per side of rafter.

The rafters are only nailed to the ceiling joist and have Teco clips from the plate to the rafter. The rafter are all laying on the outside corner of the plate and this is the only bearing point for the load.

2013年4月27日 · Try this- cut a rafter- one with a birds mouth and one without. Then set them on a roof as they will sit- the one with the birds mouth is very likely to just stay. The one without will slide off every time. With no birds mouth, the only thing keeping the rafter on is the mechanical fastener. Add a seat, and gravity helps.

2009年10月17日 · See attached drawing. Code section cited was R802.7.1. Specifically for "notching rafter more than 1/6 of it's depth". I built this detail in order to vent roof over triple LVL bearing ridge. I really don't see this as a notched rafter at all. It is basically an extension "block" attched to spanning lenght of rafter that has full bearing.

Use doubled or tripled 2x4 or 6 as your vertical framing up to a top plate and then on that goes the upper roof ridge board (wouldn't hurt to double that too since the upper roof rafters will probably fall at points between the clerestory verts)

2004年6月1日 · Re: jack/vally rafter conection Erik, Thanks for the compliment, only problem, there are no "hangers" that fit that situation (45 skew, 10/12 pitch) The ONLY thing simpson has is a "adjustable/skewable" piece O Junk, that a plumb cut rafter sits in. its only purpose is to allow someone who does not know how to cut a roof,to hang a jack rafter.
