Waka Kotahi does not encourage the use of non-standard traffic sign formats (ie, those not depicted in the specifications on this website) in any visual media. The standard shape, colour and legend of traffic signs have been carefully designed to help road users quickly see and understand them.

School Signs - First Bilingual Kura School Signs - RTL
The sign now includes KURA, the Te Reo Maori word for school, in a bold font, above the English spelling SCHOOL. The new Kura Signs can be ordered on the RTL website today. As part of fulfilling the objectives of Te Reo Rangatira to ensure te reo Māori is visible, empowered, heard and spoken (Te Reo Kitea, He Tari Whakamanawa, Te Reo Rongohia, Ngā Tikanga), Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is examining the potential for including te reo Māori on traffic signage nationally.
